About the artist
Andrea Kruis was raised in a family surrounded by art and music. Her grandfather came from Rotterdam and was well known for his etchings - with his strong black and white graphics. Her father Jan Kruis was a famous Dutch comic artist and illustrator. Grandmother played the piano and Mother still conducts a choir at 86 years old. Andrea’s daughter is studying at an art academy specializing in illustrations and animation.
Andrea has been illustrating since she was 23. With a vivid and young mind, she instinctively animates the world of children and adults alike. The expressions and interactions of the characters are spot on, energetic and humoristic. Andrea says: “I adore it when I can bring my characters alive”.
“I get my inspiration from day to day life and from my childhood memories”. Andrea’s strength is her ability to observe and to translate what she sees into cartoon characters - always treating the people and animals with great respect and accepting them for what they are. Presenting them as unaffected open creatures without a mask.
You will discover her work in children’s books, educational editions, magazines and NGO Communications such as the Leprosy Foundation, Hospitals, UNICEF and several animal welfare organizations.
Andrea (1962) is a Dutch citizen, living with her husband in the countryside in France, enjoying family, friends, music, nature and all animals – but especially her dog Bruce.
